Corporate Payroll Specialist

Job Description

The Payroll Specialist position within Amerapex Corporation is an integral part of our company. This position is responsible for full-cycle payroll and will be assigned to handle multi-state employees. You will be working within a small team to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner. We are looking for someone that understands the importance of deadlines and can also provide a high level of customer service to our employees.

Payroll Specialist must be willing to learn consistently in a fast-paced environment.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

The ideal candidate will have real-world problem-solving skills, be a self-starter, be personable, be an exceptional communicator, have advanced knowledge of ADP Workforce Now payroll system and a willingness to learn new applications.

Ability to work well with other team members in a fast-paced environment is a must. Other essential attributes are good multitasking skills, flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for your job.


  • Ability to respond and resolve payroll questions and discrepancies in a professional, accurate and timely manner while delivering quality customer service
  • New Hire set up into ADP WFN system which includes benefit enrollments
  • Assist the accounting department and Human Resources department with necessary audit reports
  • Verify funds for stop payments and properly credited to accounts
  • Reconcile against ADP WFN benefit invoices such as medical, dental, life insurance, disability insurance, etc.
  • Provide reports to all managers of hours paid for all employees on all payrolls to ensure an employee was not erroneously paid. This will let us know if termination paperwork or leave of absence paperwork was not provided to the HR/payroll departments
  • Manage child support garnishments, levy’s or any other mandated payroll garnishments accordingly
  • Set up of cost codes in ADP WFN
  • Knowledge of workers compensation codes and set up in WFN
  • Set up of state accounts as needed
  • Perform special projects as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Knowledge of ADP Workforce Now version 18 and ADP custom reporting is a must
  • Ability to respond and resolve payroll questions and discrepancies in a professional, accurate and timely manner while delivering quality customer service
  • Takes ownership of payroll operations
  • Highly organized and efficient in how they manage their time, organize their workspace, and balance their task list and conflicting priorities
  • Attention to detail and the ability to enter data with consistent accuracy
  • Able to adapt and remain positive during changes to processes and working conditions
  • Strong, professional communication skills in listening, speaking, and writing necessary for communication with staff, service providers and coworkers over the phone, in person, and via e-mail
  • Happy to work as a part of a team or independently, willing to communicate needs in a constructive manner as well as provide support to coworkers when needed
  • Sound judgement and the ability to make reasonable decisions in the absence of direction
  • Receptive to coaching from management, responds positively with willingness to make changes when desired
  • Knowledge of Payroll best practices, applicable payroll tax and benefits related laws and regulations.
  • Strong Working Knowledge of Excel
  • Adherence to internal controls and maintains confidentiality


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree or equivalent and two years’ experience processing high-volume multi-state payroll; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Payroll certification is desired but not required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a corporate environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a


  • Able to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions;
  • Able to lift and carry files weighing up to 5 pounds;
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen;
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone;
  • Able to work under stressful conditions.


Job Type:
